No really, Ericka told me it was OK to make a post on her blog. So I am. Really, this was meant to be HER post, and she would dictate it, and I would type it. But she doesn't work that way.
So the REAL topic of today's post is a new yarn store we stumbled upon. Well, it was more like we saw the ad in the Hippo and thought we should check it out. The name of said store is "Pearl's Yarn Shop", and it just so happens to be located at 422 Chestnut St in our dearest Manchvegas. Hours in the advert stated something about Wednesday through Friday, yada yada yada, and then Saturday from 10 to 2, "or by appointment". Well, at 1:30 on Saturday, we found out way to Chestnut St, found the shop, and found that it was locked tight and the lights were out.
At 1:30.
30 minutes before she advertised closing.
Now, I admit that Saturday was a beautiful day, so I can understand her wanting to get out and go across the street to Victory Park, or whatever she decided to do, but closing early only gives her a negative tick before we even had a chance to take a look inside her shop.
So Ericka and I peeked into the shop like little kids at a candy store, and we were mildly impressed by the findings. Of course, the shop was still closed, which deterred further investigation.
Our tumblies began to rumbly, so we headed back up Chestnut, banged a left at Lowell St, and had brunch at The Red Arrow. After a meal of pancakes (for me) and veggie bomb (for Ericka), we rolled ourselves back out onto Lowell St, to make our way back to the car. I deftly spotted some quilting, across the street, and thusly the day was saved by The Chestnut Quilter.
Now, I am not a quilter, merely a knitter. Ericka, on the other hand, has the whole spectrum of fiber arts in her blood. So there was much poking around, and for a "little" shop, there was a helluva lot to see. In the shop keep's defense, there was some yarn on hand, but alas, no knitting needles. She also offers lessons and open sessions. In addition to the yarn, and lessons, and all manner of quilting accouterments, there was quilting fabric spanning the entire color wheel, in patterns and designs that would amaze even little children. If I quilted, this would be a cool place for me. If Ericka quilted, we could probably sign over a couple of paychecks each year for stuff.
The rest of the day was a nice downhill, we wandered through Londonderry looking for the apple orchard that Gina directed us to. We did not find that exact orchard, but we found on close enough, and bought some utility apples for pieing and buttering. We then found ourselves at the Brooks in Londonderry, where I used to work, and a majority of the people I used to work with still find employment. A quick hop into the Game Castle wherein a miniature was purchased, and then back to Manchfrancisco to have a few links taken out of the new watch that Ericka got me. And then home, for dinner. And now I should wrap up this GABYAW.
Well, that about sums up my "guest post" on Ericka's blog, hope you enjoyed my temporary hijacking.

When Brent and I came for his interview back in May I found that little quilt store you mention! I haven't had a chance to go back, but it's a splash of WOOHAHA BABY in there! I was a little excited! haha I'll have to stroll around one day and see if I can get in the yarn shop you found!

Pearl's Yarn shop is on my walk and I've checked it out multiple days at different times for the last three weeks and have never found it open or even anyone there. I asked the woman at the shop next door if it was coming or going and she said it going to open soon.

We'll all have to make a road-trip when the shop finally opens -- poor owners won't know what hit them! hmmm...maybe they have heard about us already. "Quick! Lock the doors! SHHHHH -- Hide! We won't have any stock left.....It's one of those ManchVegas people they warned up about!" hehehe -- missed you all last night. :(
