And finally, it snowed.
I'm a good New England girl. I pick apples in the fall, I know how to cook moose meat, and I don't trust a winter without snow. Don't get me wrong, scraping ice off the car sucks. It really sucks. Especially if your little sister jacked your nice, long-handled, snow scraper with the brush on the other side, and left her little stunted one. Yeah. I should have been an only child.
Anyway. I like the snow. I like the white. I love how the whole world goes still and perfect as the snow falls.
It started snowing in earnest when we were sitting in the Wild Rover this past Thursday. Norman Rockwell snow. flaky angels giving halos to the street lights. We sat in the pub, at our favorite table by the window. Beer, good friends, and heaven spilling over onto earth outside.
And in case you think I wax far too poetic, I've got pictures of Amanda catching snowflakes on her tongue. Oh yeah. Classy lady written all over it. ;) So, now that we have snow, I want to start baking.
I would have been baking, but my time in the kitchen that hasn't been devoted to feeding Chris and I has been devoted to soap. I have at my feet a box all neatly packed with four or five dozen bars of soap. I have Jacob's Soap (the unscented oatmeal), The Land of Milk and Honey... and Oatmeal (both of these soaps have organic oatmeal blended into the bar)), Creamsicle (yum), Almond Marc (with almond meal), lavender eucalyptus, and... shit, is that it?
Well, Chris made me the best mold. It's the perfect size to get the perfect bar, 15 times, out of five pounds of soap. He made me another, and he has the lumber to make two more. Am I lucky, or what?
I've got some great new scents to work with, and some molds that are proving fun to play with. And... I hope I've tied up my last bar in a square of muslin. It looks great, but I've found a supplier that will get me little muslin draw-string bags for 19 cents each. My time (ripping, trimming, tying) is worth that. And I think I've got the logo for the whole shebang up in my head. It will star my little buddy Ramsey up there. He's so cute, so I'll let him keep doing what he's good at.
Well, I'm a tired little girl. That new job isn't really taxing (I'm shadowing for this week. Anyone out there who's ever shadowed on something that you knew nothing about knows my pain.) I'm a little bored, but I'm picking stuff up, and I work with some truly enjoyable souls. But I am tired. Maybe it's the commute. It's below a half an hour, but I honestly just don't drive that far. Chris usually drives when we're together, and I've honestly never worked so far from where I live.
So, seepies now. I'll have soap at knitting. Whatever survives that will be found on Sereknity.com in the time to come.
Good night, all.

ALL of your soaps sound so yummy - I can't wait to check them out! :)

My goodness, I have that soap book too and actually made some oatmeal. I'm still using it but gave up on soapmaking, I couldn't find molds. Anyway, I had way too many other hobbies it got too crazy...:)ciao

You almost make the snow sound nice, but I'm a bad Michigan girl, and I could live without it. :0
Your soaps sound heavenly!
